Shelbie (the dog) has a new Passion

C H I P M U N K S !!!

On Monday, I was sitting on my bed in the tent. Shelbie was asleep in the screen room (attached and floorless). I just happened to be looking at her when a chipmunk ran in to the screen room and slammed on it's breaks just inches from smacking into Shelbie's nose.

Ummm to be continued. There's a major loud siren going off ... and I have no idea why.

  1. Hey, so what happened? Did she wake up?

  2. LOL I totally forgot to finish this story. Yes, when I gasped, she woke up. Her eyesight might be less than great and her deafness might be more than selective hearing BUT there is NOthing wrong with her sense of smell.

She hopped up and sniffed down the critter's trail (all two feet) and would not leave the corner where it came and went.

The next day I was grooming her just a bit. She was all relaxed while I brushed her side. Then a chipmunk wandered across the campsite and she was up on her feet smelling the air. It took her a minute to spot it frozen beside the firepit.

Of course, the chipmunk took off when Shelbie moved toward it. The chipmunk ran around the firepit. Shelbie was convinced it ran into the firepit. For days, every time we would return to camp, she would go over and sniff the firepit -- just to be sure.
